jabalpur: in the era of women empowerment, anita abraham who worked in the railways, finds herself jobless and helpless against a system which guarantees to safeguard rights of the weaker sections and the minority communities. anita was appointed as a peon on compassionate grounds in 1992 by the central railways against the vacancy of her father who died in harness in 1985.
in 1993, she got married to a man belonging to a dalit family. apparently, the marriage cost her dearly as possibly on this ground only the authorities removed her from the service. she was dismissed in 1993 without even a chargesheet or a show-cause notice. since then she has been running from pillar to post in her quest for justice. she sent a letter to the then railway minister ramvilas paswan. although, the receipt of the same had been received nothing was done to return her job. later, her case was brought to the notice of labour minister sharad yadav who agreed to take up the case with the new railway minister nitish kumar. mr nitish kumar wrote a letter dated june 6, 2001 informing anita that he had received sharad yadav's letter dated may 22, 2001. but till date, no action has been taken. without a job, anita is not even able to manage two square meals a day. in such circumstances, she finds it difficult to even move the court for redressal. a railway employee, who did not want to be identified opined that anita should have been given a promotion, as she opted to marry a harijan. besides, she hails from a minority community and any delay in her reinstatement would mean violation of act on prevention of atrocities on minorities.
